Service Description

THE OXIDE WORKSHOP Julie’s oxide workshop is an introduction to surface design with the four types of basic oxides that are on hand for use at Claytivity Studio. This is a short two-hour workshop. The workshop will move quickly and provide a broad overview. You will learn techniques that will help you explore and test oxides further, outside of class. During the workshop, you will: • Receive a descriptive overview of chemical characteristics, mixing, safety, and handling of oxides. • Learn uses and effects of oxides on different clay bodies at different stages of ceramic surface design and firing. • Learn a sampling of hands-on application techniques. • Learn how to create test tiles and experiment with your own designs. • Learn the introductory basics of iron oxide laser transfers to transfer images of your choice. **If you’d like specific guidance, please email Julie (juliemcnelis@gmail.com) in advance with pictures and inspiration of your own visual goals. This will assist her in preparation to help everyone in the class reach their individual creative goals. Every student must bring at least one bisque-fired piece that you are willing to experiment on. Oxides will be provided.
